Blame Me f. Natalie Oliveri (Prod. Paul Bloom)

about

A Bandcamp exclusive release. "Blame Me" is a song written as two hypothetical letters written to my future grandson, and the new boyfriend of my ex-girlfriend. It imagines how our actions, and specifically our flaws can not only impact one person directly, but also those one or two people removed.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Hey kid I know you're upset with your pops and things
How he's too much just a friend and you want him to change
The closer he try to get the more he push you away
But I hope you'll understand one day
I know he's more of a buddy than father but know he loves you
Gave up on his dream and it's all just because of you
Day you were born it's like his government name changed to dad
His only job to give you what he wish he had
Cuz he wish he had more presence, and less pressure
You wish you had more lessons, and less laughter
It's hard for him to find balance, he didn't get it
His father probably messed up, I can admit it
That's why I shower you with all the wisdom you need
But I don't think when you got issues you should skip him for me
I mean, I see redemption in your mere presence
But he at least deserves a chance off of mere effort
The manual is complicated and he ain't write it
Plus he missed pages, he was misguided
I was excited for my son to do better than me
Something great, made him nervous he'd be upsetting to me
Disappointed, and that's just the times I was there
Long nights at work, long days in the air
And to see him still hurt, they just ain't fair
Grandson please know that he cares
You can blame me

Chorus:
You can blame me for it all (repeat)

She's beautiful isn't she but why she drive you crazy all the time
Blowing up like balloons doubts parading through your mind
You do everything to do right by her, she keep questioning
"Is you serious about the time you investing?"
And just last week you weren't even out and about
Just at work, still got 8 calls from the house
Checking in every hour like it's the world's end
Lived together for 3 weeks, she asking why she just the girlfriend
I remember when she was that for me
Humored me and my career but never ever laughed at me
I professed my love but still treated her like faculty
After school was work and I would bounce, like an athlete
Very nice to meet the person who would come after me
Promise she don't make problems like this naturally
That would me
She's mad when you take long to text back right
She don't be checking out your bed with a blacklight, right?
Just making sure, but don't mistake her for
A psycho out to make love seem like chore
I probably won't again see her face
Golden rule, never treat her like second place
When she keep calling your work, don't want you to leave
Understand where she coming from understand what she needs
Don't blame her cuz her past replays like a movie
Bottom line you could put the blame on yours truly, moi
